What emerges is an album both expansive and intimate, a work that wrestles with the false and clings to what is real.

The journey begins with “Shining Like the Sun,” a collaboration with Silicone Boone. It is not merely a song but an invocation: voices rising like a chant, a hymn of recognition that insists on dignity in every human face. Here, Beling and Boone summon a Thomas Merton-inspired vision — billions of lives burning like mirrors of the divine — and frame it with a sound that trembles between folk prayer and cosmic anthem.

From there, the album threads a tapestry of stories. “American Dreams” holds up the myths of success only to watch them fray at the edges. “Journey to the Moon” stretches outward, only to discover the futility of chasing validation in distant orbits. “A Little Living Tonight” counters with gentleness: a manifesto of presence, a refusal to postpone joy until the show is over. “Crashing” brings the force of thunder, a collaboration that crashes down like weather you cannot ignore, while “Every Now and Not Yet” names the ache of being caught between what is and what is becoming.

The production by Tyler Fortier expands Beling’s palette. Electric guitars and full-band arrangements add teeth without erasing tenderness. Some moments roar with cathartic energy; others retreat into fragile quiet. The balance is not always perfect, but the imperfections are part of the risk — the refusal to stay small.

What makes This Parlor Trick Life remarkable is its insistence on honesty. Beling does not offer easy comfort. He names the masks, the emptiness, the sleight-of-hand of modern life. But he also gives us glimpses of light that pierce through the illusion: songs that shimmer with hope, voices that rise in defiance of despair, melodies that remind us that behind the trick there is still truth.
